Frequently Asked Questions
How many sprays can I use when I am having an angina attack?
At the onset of an angina attack, spray one or two metered sprays onto or under the tongue. No more than three metered sprays are recommended within a 15-minute period. If pain persists, seek prompt medical attention.
Where is the best place to lingual spray Nitrolingual Pumpspray?
It should be sprayed onto or under the tongue. Avoid spraying on the teeth or on dentures. Nitrolingual Pumpspray should not be inhaled.
What is the ideal position for taking Nitrolingual Pumpspray?
It is recommended that you use Nitrolingual Pumpspray for angina treatment while sitting up.
Is it normal to have a drop of nitroglycerin lingual spray left on the nozzle after spraying?
Yes. The measuring chamber is designed to give you the proper dose, even though you may notice a drop of liquid left on the nozzle.
How often do I need to prime my Nitrolingual Pumpspray?
Before using Nitrolingual Pumpspray for the first time, the pump must be sprayed 5 times into the air (this is known as priming). The pump should be primed every 6 weeks to remain ready for use. If the product has not been used for 6 weeks, a prime of 1 lingual spray is necessary.
Why is the liquid red?
Although it appears to be red, the liquid is actually clear. The plastic coating on the bottle is red for increased visibility.
Why shouldn't Nitrolingual Pumpspray be shaken?
Nitrolingual Pumpspray is a solution and does not need to be shaken. Shaking the bottle can displace the liquid in the tube and cause the measuring chamber to measure the wrong amount of drug for angina treatment. This means you may not receive a full dose. In that case, the exact amount of nitroglycerin lingual spray delivered cannot be determined.
What happens if the bottle breaks?
The Nitrolingual Pumpspray bottle is coated in plastic for protection. In the chance that it does break, please contact your pharmacist.
May I use Nitrolingual Pumpspray to help prevent an angina attack?
Nitrolingual Pumpspray may be used 5-10 minutes prior to engaging in activities that might provoke an acute angina attack. Be sure to always have a bottle on hand and in a convenient location. Follow your healthcare professional's recommendations regarding activities and exercise.

Important Safety Information
Nitrolingual Pumpspray should not be used if you are allergic to nitroglycerin or if you are using medications for erectile dysfunction such as sildenafil, vardenafil, and tadalafil. Using Nitrolingual Pumpspray with these products may cause low blood pressure, known as hypotension, due to widening of blood vessels.
You should use Nitroglycerin with caution in the early days after a heart attack and it may aggravate the angina caused by a condition known as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Increased hypotension, mainly when standing upright, may occur even with small doses of nitroglycerin and may result in slow heart beat and increased angina. It should be used with caution if you are dehydrated due to drug therapy or if you have low blood pressure.
You might develop a tolerance to this drug or to other nitrates and nitrites.
Headache is the most reported side-effect and may be severe and persistent. Other side effects that may have been reported are headache, dizziness, or numbness and tingling of the skin.
